The Next Schömbs Familientreffen

When?
The exact Dates for the next Schömbs Familientreffen have not yet been decided. But planning is underway for late June 2028. The itinerary/program for 2028 will be decided by one year before the Treffen. But it will include some, if not all, of the elements of our past reunions. Below is a description of our past reunions,

Where?
Certainly Worms/Herrnsheim will be the central location of the Familientreffen. Arno and Mieke Schembs have been wonderful hosts. The town has a concentration of Schömbs descendants and is convenient to Undenheim and to many of our German cousins. Worms/Herrnsheim is 60 Km (40 miles) southwest from the Frankfurt Airport on the west bank of the Rhine River.

Where shall we stay?
We suggest staying in a Gästehaus. A Gästehaus (Guest House) is a small hotel, usually with 5-25 rooms. To see where we have previously stayed CLICK HERE. The List will be updated about a year before the next Familientreffen. And we will help you with deciding and making reservations.

The Agenda
The specific agenda for the next Familientreffen will be developed about a year before the next Treffen. The agenda has usually been a three day affair.

The agenda for 2023 was as follows:
Thursday evening those of us who had come from outside Germany met for a very casual "get to know you" dinner.

Friday we toured the Rhineland area between Worms and Undenheim in a chartered bus. The major stop was the village of Undenheim and St. Albans Hof, the ancestral home of Zacharias (1645 - 1707) and his wife Anna Magdalena Schömbs. On the Homepage of this WORLDSITE is more information about St. Albans Hof. On this day we will also visit Dittelsheim-Heßloch from which Thomas Schembs (1770 - 1856) emigrated with his family to Brazil in 1825. And the village of Hahnheim from which many of us descend. Our lunch will be at the Weingut Historic in Dexheim, a restaurant reminiscent of the Roman times. The trip will wrap up with a visit to the beautiful city of Oppenheim with its churches and scenic sights on the Rhein River. In each town we are led on a short walking tour of the town by local officials, including the Bürgermeister (mayor) of Undenheim. In Undenheim we will see many homes owned by the Schömbs family in the 17th and 18th Centuries. We will dine out Friday evening at the Altes Ruderhaus (the "old boathouse") Restaurant in Worms overlooking the Rhein River.

Saturday we spent a couple of hours in the nearby city of Worms, just a few kilometers from Herrnsheim. Here one of the stops was the St. Peter's Dom (Cathedral), a beautiful Romanesque structure. It was on the steps of the Cathedral where Martin Luther was tried and convicted of heresy by the Diet (Assembly) of Worms in 1521, the "Diet of Worms", OVER SIX HUNDRED YEARS AGO.

Then after relaxing for a few hours began the main Fest (party) at Chateau Schembs in Herrnsheim. Arno Schembs, the local winemaker, and his wife Mieke were our hosts.

Sunday we went in the charter bus to the town of Sankt Goar. Our first stop was at Burg Rheinfels, the ruins of the Rheinfels Castle. Originally built in the 13th Century, it is the largest castle overlooking the Rhein. We had a one hour guided tour, followed by a picnic lunch on the castle grounds. After lunch we went on a self-guided tour through the picturesque town center before boarding the K-D Line boat. The river cruise was for one hour going downriver to the town of Boppard. In Boppard we went on a gondola/chair lift up the hill overlooking the Rhein River Valley. After enjoying the view from the top we again boarded the charter bus for the return to Worms/Herrnsheim.

Sunday evening we had a farewell dinner at the Zwölf Apostel, a bier garden in Worms. And Schömbs 2023 came to a close!

Important- If you are not staying in one of the guest houses, and would like to participate in the day trips by bus or a joint meal in addition to the main meeting on Saturday, you are cordially invited to do so. Please inform us about your participation at least one week in advance. Please use the contact form, which can be found in the navigation bar under “Contact” and say how many are in your party. We can tell you the bus and meal costs.

Not a German? Would you like help?
If you are not familiar with traveling in Europe and would like some handholding, we are happy to help. We will make arrangements at nearby Guest Houses (Gasthäuser) for your lodging. Gasthäuser are small locally owned inns, usually with 10 to 30 rooms. Breakfast is included. Driving is easy in Germany, assuming you rent a car. Driving is on the right/correct side of the road. The directions from the Frankfurt airport to Herrnsheim are relatively straight-forward, about 60 kilometers (40 miles) mostly on the Autobahn. For the three days of the Familientreffen you do not need a car. But you will for other travel you will want to do while in Europe. There are some great things to see, for example Heidelberg. Most Germans are fluent in English. So you don't need to learn deutsch before you go.

Die genauen Termine für das nächste Schömbs-Familientreffen stehen noch nicht fest. Aber die Planung läuft für Ende Juni 2028. Das Programm für 2028 wird ein Jahr vor dem Treffen festgelegt. Es wird aber einige, wenn nicht sogar alle Elemente unserer vergangenen Treffen enthalten. Hier ist eine Beschreibung unserer vergangenen Treffen.

Wo?
Sicherlich wird Worms/Herrnsheim der zentrale Ort des Familientreffens sein. Arno und Mieke Schembs waren wunderbare Gastgeber. In der Stadt leben viele Nachkommen der Familie Schömbs, und sie liegt günstig in der Nähe von Undenheim und vielen unserer deutschen Cousins. Worms/Herrnsheim liegt 60 km südwestlich des Frankfurter Flughafens am Westufer des Rheins.

Wo sollen wir übernachten?
Wir empfehlen die Unterbringung in einem Gästehaus. Um zu sehen, wo wir bisher übernachtet haben, KLICKEN SIE HIER. Die Liste wird etwa ein Jahr vor dem nächsten Familientreffen aktualisiert. Wir helfen Ihnen gerne bei der Entscheidung und der Reservierung.

Das Programm
Das konkrete Programm für das nächste Familientreffen wird etwa ein Jahr vor dem nächsten Treffen erstellt. Die Veranstaltung dauert in der Regel drei Tage.

Das Programm für 2023 war wie folgt:
Am Donnerstagabend haben wir, die wir von außerhalb Deutschlands gekommen waren, uns zu einem sehr lockeren Kennenlern-Essen getroffen.

Am Freitag sind wir mit einem gemieteten Bus durch das Rheinland zwischen Worms und Undenheim gefahren. Die wichtigste Station war das Dorf Undenheim und der St. Albans Hof, wo Zacharias (1645–1707) und seine Frau Anna Magdalena Schömbs früher gewohnt haben. Auf der Homepage dieser WORLDSITE gibt's mehr Infos über den St. Albans Hof. An diesem Tag haben wir auch Dittelsheim-Heßloch besucht, von wo aus Thomas Schembs (1770–1856) 1825 mit seiner Familie nach Brasilien ausgewandert ist. Und das Dorf Hahnheim, aus dem viele von uns stammen. Wir haben im Weingut Historic in Dexheim zu Mittag gegessen, einem Restaurant, das an die Römerzeit erinnert. Der Ausflug endete mit einem Besuch der schönen Stadt Oppenheim mit ihren Kirchen und malerischen Sehenswürdigkeiten am Rhein. In jeder Stadt wurden wir von lokalen Vertretern, darunter dem Bürgermeister von Undenheim, auf einen kurzen Rundgang durch die Stadt mitgenommen. In Undenheim sahen wir viele Häuser, die im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert der Familie Schömbs gehörten. Am Freitagabend aßen wir im Restaurant Altes Ruderhaus in Worms mit Blick auf den Rhein zu Abend.

Am Samstag haben wir ein paar Stunden in der nahe gelegenen Stadt Worms verbracht, die nur ein paar Kilometer von Herrnsheim entfernt ist. Hier war eine der Stationen der St. Peter's Dom, ein wunderschönes romanisches Bauwerk. Auf den Stufen der Kathedrale wurde Martin Luther 1521 vom Reichstag (Versammlung) von Worms wegen Ketzerei angeklagt und verurteilt, dem "Reichstag zu Worms“, VOR ÜBER SECHSHUNDERT JAHREN.

Nachdem wir uns ein paar Stunden ausgeruht hatten, ging es weiter zum Hauptfest im Chateau Schembs in Herrnsheim. Arno Schembs, der lokale Winzer, und seine Frau Mieke waren unsere Gastgeber.

Am Sonntag fuhren wir mit dem Charterbus in die Stadt Sankt Goar. Unser erster Halt war die Burgruine Rheinfels. Sie wurde ursprünglich im 13. Jahrhundert erbaut und ist die größte Burg mit Blick auf den Rhein. Wir hatten eine einstündige Führung, gefolgt von einem Picknick auf dem Burggelände. Nach dem Mittagessen machten wir einen selbst geführten Rundgang durch die malerische Innenstadt, bevor wir an Bord des K-D-Line-Schiffes gingen. Die Flusskreuzfahrt dauerte eine Stunde und führte flussabwärts zur Stadt Boppard. In Boppard fuhren wir mit einer Gondelbahn den Berg hinauf, von wo aus man einen tollen Blick auf das Rheintal hat. Nachdem wir die Aussicht von oben genossen hatten, stiegen wir wieder in den Charterbus, um nach Worms/Herrnsheim zurückzufahren.

Am Sonntagabend hatten wir ein Abschiedsessen im Zwölf Apostel, einem Biergarten in Worms. Und damit ging Schömbs 2023 zu Ende!

Wichtig – Wenn du nicht in einer der Pensionen übernachtest und zusätzlich zum Haupttreffen am Samstag an den Tagesausflügen mit dem Bus oder einem gemeinsamen Essen teilnehmen möchtest, bist du herzlich dazu eingeladen. Bitte sag uns mindestens eine Woche im Voraus Bescheid, ob du dabei bist. Nutze dazu das Kontaktformular, das du in der Navigationsleiste unter „Kontakt“ findest, und gib an, wie viele Personen in deiner Gruppe sind. Wir teilen dir dann die Kosten für Bus und Essen mit.

Ainda não decidimos as datas exatas para o próximo Schömbs Familientreffen (Encontro da família Schömbs). Mas já estamos planejando para o final de junho de 2028. O itinerário/programa para 2028 vai ser decidido um ano antes do encontro. Mas vai incluir alguns, se não todos, os elementos dos nossos encontros anteriores. Abaixo está uma descrição dos nossos encontros anteriores.

Onde?
Certamente Worms/Herrnsheim será o local central do encontro da família. Arno e Mieke Schembs têm sido anfitriões maravilhosos. A cidade tem uma concentração de descendentes dos Schömbs e é conveniente para Undenheim e para muitos de nossos primos alemães. Worms/Herrnsheim fica a 60 km (40 milhas) a sudoeste do aeroporto de Frankfurt, na margem oeste do rio Reno.

A agenda para 2023 foi a seguinte:
Na quinta-feira à noite, nós que viemos de fora da Alemanha nos reunimos para um jantar bem informal para nos conhecermos melhor.

Na sexta-feira, fizemos um passeio de ônibus fretado pela região da Renânia, entre Worms e Undenheim. A parada principal foi na vila de Undenheim e em St. Albans Hof, a casa ancestral de Zacharias (1645-1707) e sua esposa Anna Magdalena Schömbs. Na página inicial deste WORLDSITE tem mais informações sobre St. Albans Hof. Nesse dia, também visitamos Dittelsheim-Heßloch, de onde Thomas Schembs (1770-1856) emigrou com sua família para o Brasil em 1825. E a vila de Hahnheim, de onde muitos de nós descendemos. Almoçamos no Weingut Historic em Dexheim, um restaurante que lembra a época romana. A viagem terminou com uma visita à bela cidade de Oppenheim, com suas igrejas e paisagens pitorescas às margens do rio Rhein. Em cada cidade, fomos conduzidos em um breve passeio a pé pela cidade por autoridades locais, incluindo o Bürgermeister (prefeito) de Undenheim. Em Undenheim, vimos muitas casas que pertenceram à família Schömbs nos séculos XVII e XVIII. Jantamos na sexta-feira à noite no restaurante Altes Ruderhaus (a “antiga casa de barcos”) em Worms, com vista para o rio Reno.

No sábado, passamos algumas horas na cidade vizinha de Worms, a poucos quilômetros de Herrnsheim. Uma das paradas foi na Catedral de São Pedro , uma bela construção românica. Foi nos degraus da catedral que Martinho Lutero foi julgado e condenado por heresia pela Dieta (Assembleia) de Worms em 1521, a "“Dieta de Worms”, HÁ MAIS DE SEISCENTOS ANOS.

Depois de relaxar por algumas horas, começou a festa principal no Chateau Schembs, em Herrnsheim. Arno Schembs, o produtor de vinho local, e sua esposa Mieke foram nossos anfitriões.

No domingo, fomos de ônibus fretado para a cidade de Sankt Goar. Nossa primeira parada foi no Burg Rheinfels, as ruínas do Castelo Rheinfels. Originalmente construído no século XIII, é o maior castelo com vista para o Reno. Fizemos uma visita guiada de uma hora, seguida de um piquenique no terreno do castelo. Depois do almoço, fizemos uma visita autoguiada pelo pitoresco centro da cidade antes de embarcar no barco da K-D Line. O cruzeiro pelo rio durou uma hora, descendo o rio até a cidade de Boppard. Em Boppard, subimos de gôndola/teleférico até o topo da colina com vista para o vale do rio Reno. Depois de apreciar a vista do topo, embarcamos novamente no ônibus fretado para voltar a Worms/Herrnsheim.

No domingo à noite, tivemos um jantar de despedida no Zwölf Apostel, um biergarten em Worms. E o Schömbs 2023 chegou ao fim!

Importante - Se você não estiver hospedado em uma das pousadas e quiser participar das viagens de ônibus ou de uma refeição em grupo, além da reunião principal no sábado, você está cordialmente convidado a fazê-lo. Informe-nos sobre sua participação com pelo menos uma semana de antecedência. Dirigir é fácil na Alemanha se você alugar um carro. A direção é do lado direito da estrada, como no Brasil. As instruções do aeroporto de Frankfurt até Herrnsheim são relativamente simples, cerca de 60 quilômetros (40 milhas), principalmente na Autobahn. Durante os três dias do Familientreffen, você não precisa de carro. Mas vai precisar para outras viagens que quiser fazer enquanto estiver na Europa. Tem coisas incríveis para ver, como Heidelberg, por exemplo. A maioria dos alemães fala inglês fluentemente. Então, você não precisa aprender alemão antes de viajar.
