- George Schoembs V (*1908, +1997) was the last family member known to emigrate prior the the outbreak of World War II. George was from Sossenheim, a town on the west side of Frankfurt am Main. He was the son of Georg (*1882, +1969) and Elisabethe Laufer Schömbs (*1887, +1961) of Oppenheim on the west bank of the Rhein. The family had migrated to Oppenheim from Friesenheim in about 1800.
George emigrated in 1929, just as the world was plunged into the Great Depression. He moved to Toledo, Ohio. In 1936 he married Frieda Müssig (*1913, +1996), also a German emigrant.
